How do you disconnect a catalytic converter?

The catalytic converter is clogged, and the car will not drive more than 30mph... PLUS the exhaust manifold glows red hot. I can't have the car towed over 100 miles to the dealership, so I quess I need to drive it, somehow. I was told that the car should be driveable if I find a way to either shut off the oxygen sensor or disconnect the cat converter. I have to take the car to the dealership for certain reasons, but the main one is because there is no one near me that can fix it or has the parts.

Does anyone know how I can disconnect the cat converter long enough to make it to the dealership?

I drive a 2001 Daewoo Nubira (no Daewoo jokes please)|||You'll need to have a bypass built for the exhaust system. I dunno about Qatar, but in the U.S. it's illegal to remove the catylitic cnvrt. (it's a pollution reducer). Since it comes before the muffler, you'll make a bunch of noise if ya try to drive it without a system to bypass the exhaust back into the muffler. Other than that, you could get someone, or rent a vehicle big enough to "self tow" the vehicle into the dealership. They'll be better able to get a replacement catylist. It's a pretty simple repair really. Or you could have them order it for you, and then do the repair yourself. (if you've got the tools/ability) I'd advise against fiddling around with the oxy sensor. Some cars more than others require this to function so the computer will correctly adjust the fuel mixture. Example: the ford festiva I used to use for commuting would periodically break down. Hours later, when a friend or tow company got there, it'd magically run fine. Turns out the oxy sensor was goin bad, but would reset once the engine cooled.|||If you can get to it with a broom stick and knock out all the stuff inside you would be set.(like putting it down the pipe). Some are bolted on and if you have a small tool set in the trunk you are set . Or maybe with the car running beat the hell out of it with a rock until all the stuff blows out the back. Good luck|||First of all being a 2001 the catalytic converter should not already be clogged but I have heard of some stranger ones. Second, There should be two bolts holding the pipes together. If there are no bolts then the exhaust pipe is usually welded together. If welded then you need to get out the cutting tools.|||If the oxygen sensor needs to be shut off, just unplug it. If you try this and it does not help. You can email me and I can walk you through your catalytic problem.

Good Luck|||if your going to replace the c.c. go ahead and drill a bunch of holes in it to get u were you need to go but the c.c. for that car is around 2to3 hundred dollers so u probley have 3 options take the bolts out or cut the pipe

or drill holes

good luck hope this helps|||If the cat is clogged on a vehicle this new you have other issues as well. Do you smell a very rancid smell from the exhaust when running? The drilling of the holes is the easiest and safest way to get the vehicle to a repair shop. But before drilling holes in a $300 cat I would make 100% sure its the problem.|||i dont think your cat is clogged up.... there usually good for years!!

pull the plug on your oxygen sensor.... you will find it bolted into your exhaust somewhere along the system. usually right near the cat...
