Can I block the Catalytic Converter hole in my 1993 Grand Cherokee?

I have rattling going on in my catalytic converter, I bought the new one from Schuck's but the one they gave me has a place for the O2 sensor after the Cat. The one in my truck has the nothing after the Cat. Can i just put a bolt in the hole?|||yes you put a bolt in the hole and tighten|||If you need to modify it, It's best to take it down to a muffler shop where they can weld a piece of piping on. chances are if that area for the o2 sensor means it may be too long anyway. They could either put a patch over the hole or cut of a small section of the pipe altogether to ensure it's the proper length.





To be honest, they probably wouldn't even charge you but 20 bucks to do it.|||Go back to the store and check if they look up the right one. If that's what they have, then go to another store and get the right one.





btw, yeah, you can just put a bolt to plug it up. Doesn't mean one day it won't rattle off.

Is it worth it to replace the catalytic converter in a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra?

It didn't pass inspection. It has 70k miles (or so the odometer says) and doesn't look so good cosmetically? Is it not worth the $400 or so to replace the catalytic converter. I don't have a lot of money, and would rather not if the car is a piece of crap anyway.|||well if the catalytic converter is the only problem then yeah it's worth it cause it converts exhaust gasses... Can you bypass a catalytic converter on a 2000 Chevrolet blazer?

It has a vortex motor. I dont know much about cars but someone told me that some vehicles can have the catalytic converter bypassed, just wondering if this is possible on this type of vehicle.|||Sure.. You can remove the cat, but it's not legal. Some shops won't even do a service like that, or atleast would want you to sign a waiver.|||Sure, if you want a $10,000 fine. It is a federal offense if you remove any properly functioning OEM emissions equipment from a vehicle, including the catalytic converter. Most states have a limit on how much you can be fined, usually between $1000-1500, but the federal law sets the fine at $10,000. Also, shops will not do this kind of work because they will get fined a minimum of $10,000 in just about any state, and can be up to $100,000, and this is for EACH offense. Imagine if they did it to just 1 car a day for a year, how much that fine would be. Realistically, unless the cat is bad, you aren't going to gain anything by bypassing it.

Where can I find a low price catalytic converter?

I need a catalytic converter for a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. My car is from California so it requires a specialty part, something to do with the emmissions in Cali. I can't find anything online. I even called Pontiac and according to them my only option is through the dealer, and they quote 700.00 bucks. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?|||Don't get taken! The dealer will rock you if you try to buy from them. A catalytic converter is not anything exotic though they play it off to be. All auto parts stores can order generic catalytic converters based on the original dimensions (length X width) and the diameter of the exhaust pipe that enters it. Any muffler shop will easily install it for you. The scrap yard nowaday will probably not have one since they can fetch $30.00 to $200.00 bucks for an old one! Here's the secret ......shhhhhhhh.......they have platinum in them. Good luck, and just go to Pep Boys or O'reilly's or Auto Zone and they'll hook you up!|||Most auto parts store like Advance, Checker, Autozone, Kragen, etc.. can sell youan appropriate replacement converter for a lot less than the dealer. You may need to have someone install it (muffler shop) but you will stillprobably come out cheaper than the dealer.|||Go on ebay and buy a Magnaflow. Those are the ones I buy, and at 50-$60 each, then I paid $50 to have it installed, so for $100, new converter and installed.|||Try to look on Ebay. My husband finds just about everything he needs on there!|||No Salvage yard in Calif. will sell you a converter unless they are taking a chance on getting busted......Many Muffler shops install Universal Cats that require being welded in and will pass Smog... they do this at a price about half of what the dealer wants... good luck...|||you don't indicate the mileage on you GA, but the car came with an 8 year/80000 mile emissions warranty. Does a 1997 Eclipse Turbo need a catalytic converter?

I bought a 1997 Eclipse Turbo that does not have a catalytic converter. Do I need to install one. I have some white smoke coming from the tail pipes. Is this the reason? Head gasket is fine, no oil leaks. Thanks|||the white smoke is probably coming from a bad turbo bearing, its pretty common. the catalytic converter has nothing to do with the smoke that just clears up bad gases coming out of the engine.|||He's right. Eventually you'll end up replacing the turbos or either rebuilding them. Don't worry, just enjoy but that's all it is.

Is it good to straight pipe your catalytic converter in your car?

My catalytic converter have gone bad in my 2004 ford taurus, I have been told to straight pipe them but im afraid that it will just cause more damage then help. It is illegal to run a car without a catylitic converter when it came with it originally. It would also effect your MPG due to the oxygen sensors not getting the same readings as stock.|||Is it good?

How do you know your cat has gone bad?





If you pull the cat, you will totally screw up the O2 sensing on the vehicle and who knows what type of fuel mixture the computer will generate. There is typically at least one O2 sensor prior to the cat and one after it. The two sensors compare to one another and from this info the engine management computer calculates a fuel mixture.|||I don't believe so
